Name
Identity Schemas Working Group
Purpose
To promote interoperability between identity systems by making it easier to find, understand, and reuse the semantics of identity attributes defined in existing schemas.
Principles
Practices
- discussion on mailing lists
- contributions of ontologies
- informal get-togethers at other identity-related events
Requirements of Participation and How to Join
Participants are required to contribute to at least one of:
- populating the catalog (thesaurus)
- developing the technology behind the identityschemas.org site/catalog
- contributing to the "person" ontology (in one of its three formats)
Join by joining one of the mailing lists.
Licenses and/or Restrictions on Usage of Work Product
- Any person or organiztion can contribute schemas (or more properly, ontologies) as well as tools (e.g. format converters) to the site. The IP rights remain with their respective holders. IdentitySchemas.org is not a legal entity and does alter in any way existing IP rights and agreements.
- All contributions of code or schemas must contain copyright and licensing information. If this is not present the contribution will be deleted. No assumptions are made as to the kind of license.
- No IP is created or generated by the site. This includes schema cross-reference data which is also considered a contribution and must be copyrighted and licensed as with any other kind of contribution.
Current Deliverables and Milestones

- A db-backed web-based catalog/thesaurus that allows peer co-production

Mailing Lists
- IdSchemas list --this is the main list (very low volume)
- person-ontology list --list for folks interested in collaborating on a "person" upper ontology (but who believe that the OWL foundation for HOWL isn't expressive enough and are making the case for a more powerful language)
